Fair Trade
Over the past decade we have strictly observed our own self imposed system for fair and ethical trading, and from the start of 2004 we have been recognized as a Fair Trade Supplier by The British Association of Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS).
We visit our producers each year and place orders as required. At the time of ordering we make a down payment of at least half the total cost. This allows the smallest producers to purchase the necessary raw materials. Final payment is made when the goods are delivered to the packers, which is several weeks before we receive the goods. By operating this system we have developed a bond of trust that benefits both parties. Payment is made directly into small family businesses and we know that they benefit directly and immediately from the trade.
Apart from directions to enable them to comply with the requirements of the British health and safety laws, we try not to influence their craft by imposing other conditions.
